Plastic-free shipping and packing

HOW DO WE PACK ?

We aim to minimize the footprint and waste from retail shipping - all of our packaging materials are 100% plastic-free, 100% recyclable and 100% compostable.

BOXES

  • All our shipping boxes are made of recycled materials.
  • We aim to use recycled boxes and mailers, with as high a percentage of post-consumer waste as possible
  • Sometimes, acquiring 100% recycled shipping materials with 100% post-consumer waste (PCW) require transporting them across the country. In such cases, we prefer shipping materials that may have slightly lower recycled and PCW content, but are available locally, for lower-footprint overall.
  • We also reuse boxes that our suppliers have sent to us if they are still sturdy.

TAPE

  • We use a non-reinforced paper tape for sealing our boxes that has water-activated glue (plant-based).
  • This can be fully recycled or composted along with the boxes or mailers.

SHIPPING LABELS

  • The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified label paper is made of 100% recycled material (100% post-consumer content)
  • Labels are recyclable as part of paper waste

FRAGILE ITEMS

  • We use packing paper to reinforce any fragile items that we may be shipping.
  • This can be fully recycled and composted along with the boxes or mailers.

CARRYING IT FORWARD

  • We hope that anyone who purchases from our store carries it forward by reusing, donating, composting or recycling all packaging materials. We include a note to this effect when we ship.
  • We also aim to minimize our footprint upstream, so we ask all our suppliers to ship without any plastic. Not everyone has changed to plastic-free shipping yet, but it is a change in the right direction.
