OUR STORY

WHO WE ARE

Nami, her husband, Anjan and their pup, Leo (brand ambassador) are the people behind Zerovana. We are a small, family-owned and operated business in Dallas, Texas seeking to leave the world a little better than we found it. We're all foodies (especially Leo), enjoy hiking and going on road trips.

We are staunch believers in businesses being a force for change - be it a small 2-person business or a multi-billion dollar corporation. We try to do as much as we can, in our own little way to give back .

Growing up in India, we remember our parents and grandparents living a simpler and cleaner life. DIY and 'Bring Your Own' were the way of life rather than being some sort of a movement. Carrying cloth bags for shopping, using steel plates and lunch boxes, making homemade fresh cream and butter, getting milk daily in glass bottles were our early childhood memories. We would also get fresh flour in a metal can from a vendor who would grind bulk wheat for us.

As times changed, it became commonplace to find packaged flour, plastic shopping bags and milk in plastic packs making it harder for such smaller vendors to compete. We accepted that as a new norm and got accustomed to a certain level of apathy towards environmental issues.

Our turning point was when we brought home our pup Leo, as a puppy. We wanted what's best for him and began exploring the benefits of fresh foods and natural treatments without use of unnecessary chemicals. This led us to re-evaluate our lives as well and how our choices on a daily basis were destroying our environment just for the sake of convenience.

We began making small, incremental changes to our lives, being mindful of everything we consume and buy and throw out. We started with cutting single-use plastics as the first step. Our journey to reduce our waste and minimize our environmental impact continues on a daily basis and Zerovana was born out of our desire to make this easier for others as well.

"I said 'Somebody should do something about that.' Then I realized I am somebody."

This quote by Lily Tomlin drives us everyday and we're trying to do our small bit in helping ourselves and others on this journey to a reduced footprint life, leading to a zero-impact nirvana.

Plastic-free regards,
Nami, Anjan and Leo
